Karuna Dham is showing humanity how to make one’s life a success.
The essence of Yoga is to appreciate and link with The Creator of everything- isha vashya idam sarvam. Just as we wash, eat, sleep, work to keep the body fit, a perfectly balanced, material and spiritual life, automatically also revolves around The Creator – God. Like when one gets up, he does Surya Namashkar, then meditation, devotion or bhakti yoga, ashtanga yoga, he eats but after offering the food to the Lord. How to do service and make income in the spirit of karma yoga. For pro-creation, in the Bhagavat Gita Krishna says “I am that sex life which is not contradictory to dharma. Even while sleeping practice Nindra yoga”.
As Shrila Prabhupada would often say “ You do not have to give up anything just add Krishna to your life”
At Karuna Dham the Yoga Retreat Package including boarding and lodging will enable the members to practically witness, participate and learn the above yogic practices for the soul. For the body, Living in harmony with Nature includes organic farming, self-sufficiency, off grid energy, forestation, bio-architecture housing, sustainable living and the like.
Karuna Dham is a place for perfect balancing of material and spiritual and energies.
This is the core purpose of Karuna. The ultimate purpose of all our activity is to fine tune the body & mind to relish the nectar of our true nature, i.e. Eternity, knowledge and bliss. Self sufficiency in food, energy and housing to keep the body going and for happiness we 'dig in', so a perfect balance of material and spiritual needs is maintained. Members at Karuna are aspirants of this mood and are happy to share their experiences towards this end.
At Karuna we don't use electricity from the national grid. All power is sourced from solar energy and hydroelectric power. The climate and water resources are good for cultivation all through the year. The potential is good. Various systems of organic farming are being practiced. At present 20 varieties of fruits are growing.
Karuna is surrounded by forests and peaks on either side, with paths for a short forest stroll or an all day trek, with spectacular views, tropical forest and wildlife.
My name is Nevil Moncher and I am a Mumbai-born Parsi, who came to live in solitude in Kodaikanal, South India in the 80s. I have been fighting to protect this pristine land ever since through a number of court cases to protect forests, lakes, close factories and illegal buildings, protecting and developing trees, wildlife, flora and fauna, as well as developing fair-trade for crops for locals, etc.
After nearly 10 years of environment activism I decided to ‘put to practice what you preach’. Since 2000 I have put my total energy into developing Karuna – an off-grid, sustainable community, to bring it to what it is today.
